There is no measure for my love. It cannot be measured and probably not even described but none-the-less I wanted to try. How much I love others is a reflection of how well I understand love and how much I love myself.
At the most basic level my philosophy is built on a foundation that love is the glue that holds the universe together. So when they started to build the Large Hedron Collider to find the Higgs-Boson (sometimes called the God Particle) I thought to myself…finally science intends to prove my theory that love holds the universe together. Love – what better word for something that is not perceptible but adds mass to the universe. I love my theory!
You see the amazing thing about human life is we have the ability to create and share our own stories. A theory is just the start of a new chapter of the human story. It does not matter if our stories are fact based or not. In truth even reality is subjective because the describer perceived it and the observation in and of itself changes the observed. What does matter, is that it is a good story and we share it well. It does not matter if the scientists call it Higgs-Boson, the media calls it the God Particle and I call it Love. These are all just concepts designed to convey meaning and each of them clearly does to a particular type of audience at any given time.
Each of the labels stimulates a different discussion but all the discussions are noteworthy and of consequence to the fullest human experience. It is not a competition. There is no “right concept” there are only “good discussions” for us to have to more deeply understand ourselves and thereby all others.
So please understand me when I say that I love you. I love different people in different ways. I love some aspects of some people more than others. I love myself before all others. This is not in a narcissistic way where I feel separate or superior to others as Narcissus did when he died sitting beside the pond gazing upon his own reflection. I love myself in that I have; Learning to be Open to a Venerable Expression of myself.
Learning is the leading word of the acronym LOVE for me. Learning is one of the keys to living and loving. Learning is what really sets apart humans from the rest of the animal kingdom. Learning is the key to adapting. I have learned to love myself and also many aspects of others. I learn therefore I am able.
Open is the minimum requirement for my mind and heart. I must have an open mind to accept knowledge and then adapt it to my understanding. I must have an open heart to be compassionate with my fellow humans. Understanding and compassion are the basis of my humanity, without them I may regress to my animal instincts.
Venerable is a desired state achieved by dignity, character or position. To be venerated means that I have achieved. I have achieved with dignity (meaning I have treated others fairly), I am of good character (honest, ethical and true to my word) and I have gained position (others will follow my lead). I seek to lead from as well as to follow others who have achieved this laudable state.
Expression as in “expressionism” from the early sixties (a form of art that emphasized the subjective expression of the artists inner experiences). The pinnacle of my achievement is that I express my innermost experience or the very core of myself. The revelation of my “inner essence” is important not only to myself but to others as well. This blog is an attempt to do it. Our core is where our true heart lies.
So believe me when I say I love you as much as I love myself and that is all that each of us can really do for one another. And I hope that each of you loves yourself and others as much as I love you. And so it is.
