When we find ourselves caught in the grips of fear one thing we can do is rewind life to before the fear existed.
The problem with fear is that when it happens to us it seems like there is no escaping the road to hell. In fact, just like in the photo, there is nothing stopping us from leaving the path and heading off in a new direction and yet we continue on the path
So what can we do? How can we change direction and stop traveling on the path of our fear? We can turn back the clock in our lives to be before we had the fear. We can reconnect ourselves with the “pre-fear” version of ourselves.
The daunting task of getting over our fears is no match for the reliable memories we have of a time in our life when we were not concentrated on the fear but rather the happiness, success, achievement, love or other positive emotional state we recall. Why is this important? How does it help?
We are like a universal magnet. Whatever we believe we achieve. Whatever we put out we get back. The debilitating thing about our fears is that we go into a downward spiral of vague uneasiness. In order to overcome our fear we must face it and name it. The very act of making it specific lessens its impact. The worst part of fear is the vague uneasiness that increases in intensity.
When recall a positive sentiment or emotional state we immediately calm down. Once we are more calm we can become rational. Fear has rational thinking and shrinks in comparison. So remember that the next time you are fearful the tools you need are available within. You have a veritable storehouse of happy memories and you can use them to center yourself and then your rational mind reign supreme. It has worked for me and I am sure it can work for you.
