Our heavenly bodies create our perception of time. The very fact we are in constant motion hurtling through the universe at 915,000 kph (speed of the Milky Way) is the formula causing our experience of time. Movement over distance is the physical explanation of time but more interestingly is often our esoteric notion of time.
Sometimes in our lives time can seem to drag on and become annoyingly slow. This is often because we want to be or have something in our future. If you remember back to when you were a child you might have wished to be a teenager or as teenager wished to be an adult. It starts early, and sometimes in continues through life. These are the type of things we can alter with meditation.
Put simply, meditation is ensuring we are present in the now. You would think this would be a simple task but often it is not. Today I am doing a walking meditation. I am invited out for brunch. I will walk the approximately 2 kilometers staying present the entire time. I remain present by employing all of my senses. I see with my entire mind and I engage fully with my environment. This helps me stay present in each moment.
Here is a very simple focus meditation that I use. Perhaps it might work for you as well. You are more than welcome to join me in using it.
I am here. There is air. I am here.
I find this simple statement repeated over and over helps me to breathe deeply and also brings me deeply into the present. Do not be concerned that your mind may ask questions like: where is here, here or there or any other such things which may pop into your mind. Simply remain on task and repeat. I am here, there is air, I am here. Eventually in my own practice it actually becomes only two statements and they are in time with my breathing. “I am here” is breathing out and “there is air” is breathing in. And finally it becomes only one statement; I am here.
This meditation is very helpful for relaxing and returning to me to a more natural state of peacefulness and playfulness whenever I seem to get overwhelmed in the information age. I hope it can also help you to live the life you love to live.
