What does it take in order for my mind to be completely quiet and still? When did it last happen? How often does it happen? Do I decide or does it just happen. These are fundamental and important questions we each must answer in order to come to clarity around our choices in life.
Our answers in life are always within us. The answer is normally not something new and rarely eludes us. It is we who elude the answers in our lives and we often do it in a most ingenious way. We hide from answers by asking questions. We either ask ourselves what I refer to as the “great unanswerables” (most of which start with the word “why”) or we ask ourselves questions which in fact are thinly disguised self-judgement or a combination of both, for example: Why do I do this to myself? Without 3 to 5 years therapy, meditation on a mountain top or other such self-exploration chances are you cannot answer this question…smile.
These types of questions do two things. They can cause our mind to get busy or even worse fall into endless loop traps (repeatedly asking ourselves a series of unanswerable questions). The second impact is they stop us from accessing the real and true questions for which we do have answers and which if we allow ourselves to know the answer will improve our lives by getting us closer in touch with ourselves or more in tune with our hopes and dreams.
So what is the cure? Well it is up to you to choose and there are a myriad of methods to use as well. But today I thought I would share how and why a bubble bath has often been inspirational for me. I thought this photo well represented the essence of what I am feeling when I take one.
The warm water relaxes me and I notice I am relaxed because I can actually hear the tiny bubbles bursting. It is a wonderful and serene sound to me. When I notice this sound I also become aware that my sight is more acute. The color seems brighter and the images more crisp (even without my glasses..smile). Then I notice that my sense of smell is enhanced. The fragrance from the bubbles is wonderful. Finally I notice that I can feel a smooth oily almost satin film on my skin. I am now complete. My world is at peace. I am in harmony. I relax and I let go into my quiet mind. Suddenly clarity surrounds me and wisdom is forthcoming. I have answers. Questions seem impossibly simple. I have wisdom.
So the next time you find yourself with a busy mind take time to escape, perhaps into a bubble bath but there are other methods of meditation as well. And then when you are relaxed allow your inner quiet thoughts to reveal themselves. The results may be the very best part of your day.
