Thank you for this day…

Thank you for this day Spirit, thank you for this day. This wonderful, glorious, beautiful day. Thank you for this day! These lyrics were a song I have sung many times based on the music of Karen Drucker.

I often find it easier to give thanks on a beautiful sunny day with a blue sky and wisps of white clouds high enough to be interesting but not full enough to block the sun. It is my choice to create more enjoyment of a sunny day but it does not preclude me from enjoying the rain either.

The same is true in all aspects of our lives. It is easy to celebrate and enjoy life on the good days but not quite as easy on the “other” days. So the issue becomes what I am really giving thanks for and to whom? Let’s start with the “to whom” because that is easy for me to answer. I am giving thanks to the Divine (God, Great Spirit, Mother Nature, Allah, and the myriad of other names for the one universal mind presence and spirit – which I believe to be the same regardless of name).

But now let me share with you what I am grateful for. (ask Winston Churchill if you have any questions about ending sentences with a preposition) I am grateful that I am spirit having a human experience. I am grateful that I can enjoy this thing called life on a ball suspended in time and  space in what we call a Universe. I am enjoying the experience even though it has its ups and downs. Without the reverse (opposite) I would not know the obverse (the normal) , without the mundane (physical) I would not know the esoteric (spiritual) and finally without separating myself from the divine I could not know the divine. And it is that for which I am truly grateful. I am grateful to know the Divine through my ever increasing conscious awareness of myself.

Thank you for this day Spirit, thank you for this day. And thank  you for reading. I hope you enjoy the day as much as I am grateful for it.
