What makes us loyal? Why do we pick one person and stay with them forever? Why do we maintain relationships with our family for all of our lives? I believe it is because faith is the very foundation of emotional well being. And loyalty is really just faith put into practice.
In reality we have only one way to prove our values. We speak them and then we honour our words by conducting our lives to match them. Consistency between our words and deeds is often challenging. I have belief that no one really tells lies. Each of us speaks in one of two ways. We tell the way we remember something or alternatively we tell it the way we wish it was. If we find ourselves “caught in a lie” then the clue is the lie itself. We want the story we told to be truth. Why it was not the reality is the thing to examine. In these cases “why” holds the key to setting a new course wherein we are living our truth. And, as the saying goes, the truth shall set us free.
Almost all of our important ceremonies have a component of loyalty. We are loyal, true and faithful when we choose marriage. We are loyal to our country, meaning we act in the best interests of, we are faithful to our friendships. If we do not have faith we will not create the foundation of happiness in our lives. Faith is one leg of the tripod of the three theological values allowing us “to share in the nature of God”, those being faith, hope and charity.
If we do not commit loyalty first to our values and then to others in our relationships we will not discover the bond of surety that another will always stand by us. If we are not true unto ourselves, then others will not be true unto us. We are the creator of our experience and others treat us the way we behave. Lovers are always loved. We are the ones who must first step out and into trust, honour and celebrate others. When we do we shall know no greater rewards than those bestowed upon us by others.
So today decide to become a loyalist. To thine own self be true and then as it is true for you so shall it be true for all others towards you. And so it is.
