I do not complain about the world. I choose to change it. Some say “we should view the world through rose colored glasses”. Others would say “we need to take time to smell the roses”. I say something different: “substitute a choice every time you have a complaint and you will enjoy life more”.

Scientifically it now appears they can prove something I have known for years. We can effect each others energy. For example when we share negative emotions we cause others around us to experience them. Just think about it for a moment. Think back on the last time this might have happened to you. You complained about something and the very next thing that happened was someone else around you said something like “I know, that happened to me except it was…” and they articulate another complaint. Before you know it you are sharing complaints in a veritable maelstrom of negativity.

Not only is the energy from complaints negative it has an even more devastating effect. Each person becomes mired in their own unique negativity and thus isolates and separates from the others around them. I always think of it the same as what happens when you turn two magnets with the negative poles towards each other, they push away.

So the final exercise in this series of embodying our spiritual principles is to in fact substitute choice for complaints. The next time you are aware that you have complained try the following:

I recognize that every complaint offers me a new choice and so I chose: _____________________ (input a solution to move you away from the complaint, no matter how small or big just try something to shift your energy).

My last complaint was about being on the wrong side of the ocean from my husband and so here goes.

I recognize that every complaint offers me a new choice and so I choose to save 10% of my earnings for the next 2 months to create money to travel to Europe.
