I have a secret to tell you. You can choose for yourself without judging others.
It seems so simple. Life can be this easy. Sometimes it can be easy to confuse judgment and choice. Here is an example that I have often used to help people distinguish between the two. You woke up this morning. You went to your closet and picked a top to wear. The top (sweater, shirt, blouse or whatever) only required choice. You did not look into your closet (hopefully anyway…smile) and start judging your other clothes you simply chose what to wear today.
This simple distinction. Choice versus judgement is really what is meant by wise teachings such as the biblical quote “judge not lest ye be judged”. To me there is a very profound wisdom at play here. When we make a judgement we immediately set into play an energy of judgement.
If you choose to “judge another” you automatically unleash the demon of judgement within. I believe the ultimate judgment to be feared is actually the voice within. Let me give you an example. You are driving down the street. Someone pulls out in front of you. You make the comment “what an idiot”. This is not an observation. It is a judgment. It is unkind. It sets a negative energy into play. The next time you make a mistake driving your “inner voice” will also remind you “I am an idiot”. This will then feed into an endless cycle of “people being idiotic”. It becomes a pattern, a pattern which becomes a habit. It is not pleasant for you. It is not pleasant for your passengers. No one wins.
This is the truth behind “lest ye be judged”. It is not some deity with a flawed human personality and an out of control ego requiring submission, worship or sacrifice. It is much more mundane. It is the inner voice in your own mind over which you have control and influence. So the next time the “demon” judgment rears its ugly head, do not feel guilty, do not hang your head in shame, I do not judge you nor suggest you do it either. I suggest, even advise, you make another choice.
