Have you ever thought how one simple act of kindness can change the energy of the entire world? Take this beautiful red tulip. Imagine you sent it to the one you love. Imagine you wrote on the card “your love is the nourishment that helps me to grow”. Imagine if you received it? How wonderful it is that a small thing like one flower and a few words can bring beauty and harmony to the world.
I try to think of one kind act to do each and every day. I often do them for my husband but I also think of the people I work with, my neighbours, my friends, people at the coffee shop or servers at the restaurant. Sometimes it is just another person walking down the street. It is so easy to do something nice for someone and the appreciation is reward enough but the personal satisfaction I derive really energizes me as well.
I always do something natural and authentic. It is easy for us to “read” someone’s intentions so make sure you create something that occurs naturally to you. An example for me would be sometimes I notice I have a connection to someone. It could be in the elevator as I go up to my office. I mention it to the other and I always smile. I cannot recall a time someone did not respond with a smile. It is that simple, a fleeting connection with another person as our paths cross.
The other interesting aspect of doing something kind each day is that it costs very little and often nothing. Although sometimes it is fun to do something outrageous with money just to prove to myself that I am the designer of limits in my life. But even more than the money it is our word that is so powerful. To inspire another. To affirm for another their worthiness and contribution to our lives is a simple and yet deeply meaningful act. And if you really want to get creative, try looking in the mirror and saying it to yourself!
If a morsel of food or a cup of water is worth more than a mountain of diamonds to us as humans it is equally true that a kind word is one of the best gifts we can give each other and ourselves as well. In many ways and on many days I have said to someone that they are important to me and contribute meaningfully to my life. It is my pleasure to say it because it is true. I get to take a moment an be grateful for the contribution the other has made to me and in passing it on to them I bring encouragement and enrichment to them as well.
So today, think of a kind act. Think of many. Try them out. Tell someone, tell anyone, tell everyone how special they are to you and in turn I promise you will have a special day as well. Remember to live the life you love to live.
