A positive outlook is a thing of beauty indeed. One of the most important principles for us to find and follow our bliss is in fact to keep a positive outlook. Our happiness, to a great extent, is fueled by our ability to look adversity in the face and grow from it.
One of the easiest ways for us to stay positive is to look back and review other times in our lives where we have grown as a result of adversity. Each of the keys represented in the photo hold a truth about our ability to overcome adversity in our lives.
Our success in life comes not from avoiding adversity but from our ability to take on adversity and win. And make no mistake about it, I mean win! The only real competition we have in life is our ability to do better ourselves. It is not the measure of ourselves against others which gives us a sense of accomplishment. It is the fact we have done it ourselves. You may never be the richest person in the world, in fact the odds are against it. That in no way should diminish your happiness with your financial successes. What we achieve must be meaningful and fulfilling to us not others.
Take a moment and recall the last major hurdle that you experienced in your life. Let yourself tell the whole story. Pull out all the sordid little details you want and really get involved in the story of how horrible it was for you. Now. Change course. Appreciate what you learned. Allow yourself to be grateful for how skilled you were at adapting. Remember that today you are stronger as a result of your experience. Remember that today this experience is not just behind you but supports you as you move forward in life. Celebrate the fact that today you have many achievements. Celebrate achievements are many times the result of overcoming a hurdle in life. We are all competing in the great hurdle race of life.
Now let us take a moment to build what I call our positive emotional override. This override is what helps us see the positive. Our override is not naiveté nor is it denial, it is a healthy combination of hope and desire. It is our motivator. It is our strength. It is our ability to focus on what can be not what has ended. We build our override by releasing negative energy and gathering positive energy. I like to see myself as standing under a polarized glass bell. Negative energy bounces off and positive energy gets through.
Today make time to build up your positive inventory and release old negative thoughts and thinking from your own warehouse. In the future you will be glad you did. And so it is.
