Let the fun times roll…

Are you taking the time to have fun in your life? If you do not make some time each day then you risk creating losing touch with this part of yourself and where’s the fun in that?

Fun is a prerequisite for a happy life the way that cement is necessary to create concrete. That is right, your eyes do not deceive you. Cement is an ingredient in concrete, it is not the thing itself. And that is also true for fun. Fun is part of happiness but it is not the thing itself.

When is the last time you really let go? I do not mean you had a few laughs or even drinks with friends. I mean that you were sober (sorry kids does not count if you are drunk or high – that is not you) and really let yourself go and do something fun. Fun is not something that escapes your life at a certain age. If someone has told you this do not believe them. Fun is something we can and should do our entire lives.

So today I recommend that you really make some time to explore fun in your life. Fun often is available for free but you can spend some money on it as well if you like. Do not use the excuse that you do not have the money for something fun. That is a copout. Most people on planet earth could not dream of all the things available to you for your fun today. Pick one of them and approach it with wild abandon.

Here is a partial list of fun and free things I do for fun. Sing to my husband or sing a song with him. Dance to salsa music. Wash my hair in the rain. Practice riding my bike hands free. Read a book in bed in the middle of the afternoon. Bake peanut butter cookies. Write a poem for my husband. Play on the swings in the park. Go out and take photographs. And  there are many more.

Here is the litmus test to know when I am really having fun. The time flew by and I did not notice it. I was laughing so much I had to cross my legs or actually said out loud “stop, I can’t take it anymore”. Someone said to me something like; “you are fun today” or “I always have fun with you”. I felt utterly and completely satisfied at the end of the activity. I was totally at peace and calm after it. I found myself smiling at people for no reason. Perhaps you have a few tests of your own happiness. If you do please leave them in comments for others to read as well.

So today I hope you really take some time to enjoy the fun in your life. It is there. It is waiting to be discovered. You will be glad you did and chances are others around you will be happy to participate as well. Have fun!

My vision is a world where conflict is communicated and used to stimulate personal freedom and expression for all mankind. My mandate is to reduce conflict using love as my primary tool. My life's work is to learn and then share my learning with others. I am supported by a wonderful loving husband named Pedro, a loving family and many friends. I derive income from helping my clients build and protect their wealth as a financial planner and occasionally from spiritual fitness coaching and speaking engagements.
