I have always enjoyed the visual of the carousel, but not just any carousel, it has to be a very fun ride. I like this particular image because we are flying, which connotes success to me. We are on it with other people, some would say hanging by a thread but I would choose flying free as a bird…smile.
So how do we create this feeling when we are feeling sad, afraid or lonely. Well you may be surprised to learn that is not about abandoning, dreaming or escaping your reality. It is about feeling our emotions and then choosing to change them. This is easier said than done but here is something to help you.
I have created a circle for life of my own. Think of it like a compass with the four points. At the north is Thinking, at west is Emotion, at south is Action, at east is Belief. Thinking leads to emotion, which causes action, which solidifies our belief. We cannot change our emotions nor our beliefs but we can choose new ways of thinking and different behaviours and this will lead us to less volatile emotions and new beliefs. It all starts with thought.
So if your carousel is spinning out of control the only thing required is new thought or new action. Emotion is like a wave, if you stand tall and firm it will flow around you. Your belief in your pain and sorrow comes from the actions you take. Stop the cycle by starting at the True North which is thought. The new thought could be something like: I am in control of the speed of my life. The new action could be a walking meditation. And if you are looking for something to meditate upon let me offer up these three truths for you.
Who you are is perfect. What you do is important. You are loved. And so it is.
