The fountain of YES…

Just say yesHow wonderful it would be if the dominant thought in our minds was always YES. We would be more artistic or more dramatic or even, dare I say it, much happier if we only said YES more often.

It is not always easy to arrive at the destination YES (obviously a Canadian airport seeing as it starts with the letter Y…snicker) so one of the approaches I use is I start at YES and in order to escape it I have to climb on board the “no train”.

You see I discovered as a small child that if everyone in the world has baggage then at least I will try to make mine an overnight bag and even then I can pick and choose how to pack it, when to carry it and even when to travel without it from time to time. If I answer YES immediately (sometimes even before the person has finished asking me) I find that I do more, discover more, learn more and have more fun. Those are compelling reasons.

I have had so many interesting jobs because each time I was asked to undertake a project I said YES. Did I like all of them? No. Some of them I really disliked. But that only happens very occasionally. When I said YES did it stop me from making another choice later on. No. I have the freedom to choose each moment of each day. Now that is not to say that I am fickle or cannot or will not commit because that is not so. I am just saying that I am not obligated to any particular course simply because I said yes. If I do not like something I simply say YES to something new.

So the spiritual fitness exercise for today is simple. Just allow yourself to notice your default position. Is it YES or is it NO. If you find it is NO then you might consider changing your “settings” to YES. After all, just like the computer you are using now, you can always reset yourself back to your default settings later.
