A Philosophy

I studied Religious Science. To me the religious part is our spiritual beliefs and the science is for us to create and conduct experiments to prove our spiritual beliefs to ourself.

A perfect future awaits

Alan Cohen wrote: “Your future isn’t what it used to be.” How true!! Every moment, indeed with every breath – every thought, we are creating a new future. Knowing this makes me realize the responsibilities and the joys of being aware of the Principles of Religious Science. I was talking to someone the other day who’s life seems…

A bird in hand…

A few weeks ago, I was standing by the sliding door in my home office when I saw Daisy streak by. This cat was an amazing hunter, she once jumped six feet straight up on a fourth floor balcony to snatch a bird out of the air. Something told me she had caught another critter,…

Coming home to community…

Wednesday is the 29th Anniversary Celebration of the Honolulu Church of Religious Science … I’ve been flooded with memories as this is my “home church.” I actually started studying Religious Science in Glendale, California, and got a good understanding of Religious Science, yet Honolulu, through Rev. Helen Street, was where I grew up. Where I…

Superstition killed the…mood

Ooooooo … it’s Friday the 13th!! It’s only 8:52 AM and already I’ve heard 3 references to Friday the 13th being bad luck… Logically, why should a number, attached to a particular day, be ‘bad luck’? It doesn’t make sense, According to Wikipedia, the legends of Friday the 13 are numerous – maybe starting in…

Living life free from blame…

Something that has become quite clear to me with the current events of the world is how we humans still have the propensity to make enemies. We live our beliefs, today and everyday…

“These are desperate times. Challenging times. Hard times are ahead. Time to tighten your belt. It’s going to get worse before it gets better …..” I know you’ve read and heard the same things. We’re being bombarded by the media, hearing stories of financial disasters from friends, etc.. NO! NO! NO! – this is not…

I am so proud of myself…

“Right now, say it out loud: “I’m so proud of myself.” The rush of strength and expansiveness that comes from declaring this honestly is the antidote to paralysis and the beginning of wonderful adventures, and each time you choose that, instead of shame, you really should be proud.” — Martha Beck Go on – say it:…

What’s luck got to do with it?

At lunch after our Gathering last Sunday, as I was answering some questions about my new position, one of our congregation said “You are so lucky.” I heard myself replying “Luck had nothing to do with it! I’ve been treating for this for the past 24 years!” As I said this, I remembered another occasion.…
