A step in the right direction…

I see my life as one big open field. I envision a blue sky with billowing white clouds and wildflowers blooming in abundance. Each part of this picture has spiritual significance for me and I wanted to share it in case it helped others create their own mental image of their life.

The reason it is a field is to remind that there is no “right” next step. Any step in any direction is a good one to take. It is not so much where I step as how I step  and what I believe once I arrive in my new location. Many years ago I used to believe there were paths in life and then my goal was to find the right one. In reality I discovered so many intersecting paths and loops within paths that took me back to places I had visited before and then the whole image became confusing. This never happens in my “field of life”.

You will notice another aspect of my open field is that there is a crest to the hill. This reminds me that there is always something new to come in life, something unexpected, something to look forward to and anticipate. It is waiting, just over the crest of the next hill for me to discover it.

I specifically envision clouds in my open field because “into every life a little rain must fall”. How would I know how good life is if I did not understand it is not always good? The negative must exist for the positive to exist. Rain falls but it also makes the grass green and the flowers grow. My perfect picture includes clouds but you will notice is not overcast. It is a beautiful day with lots of white billowing clouds against a beautiful blue sky and sunlight nurturing the fields to grow.

And finally you will notice that my field is full of growth. There is not one place where life is not exploding into material magnificence because in fact there is always growth in my life and it overwhelms that which is dying. Of course there are plants, weeds, flowers and even insects dying in this field but overwhelmingly it is a place of growth and abundance. And so it is true for my life. No matter what is in decline it is the abundance which inspires me.

I am not sure if you can relate to this mental imagery or not but the important thing is that we each create a mental image that supports us to be the best version of ourselves that we can be. Because when we do then we are well on our way to building the life we love to live.
